Find Your Luggage Easily

!: Find Your Luggage Easily

The most important thing to remember as you leave your luggage off at the airport is to remove all of the old stickers. You do not want any of the old bar codes sending your bag some place other than where you are going this time! You also want to remove any shoulder straps or add-a-bag straps, because these can get caught in the conveyor belt and hold up your luggage. Additionally, you don't want to travel with damaged luggage. Damages such as rips and tears can worsen during baggage handling, and your clothing and belongings can go astray. Be sure to have your name, address, cell phone number, and destination placed inside the luggage where it can be seen. If by chance, it has gone astray the airlines need to know how to contact you.

Of course, you need a luggage tag placed on the outside handle. Tags today have the address hidden for your security. No use broadcasting to anyone that you're away from home! Because of the amount of luggage being handled today, and the fact that claim checks are rarely verified when leaving the airport, you may want to put a tag on both the top handle and the side handles of your luggage. In that way, other passengers can readily see that the bag is not theirs. Bright colored tags make spotting your luggage easier. Keep the same color scheme for all of your bags, so you know what color to look for, and you can spot it at a distance. Put one on each handle. Laminated luggage tags of your business card are another good idea. This will have your name and business address and phone number. Again, put one tag on the top handle and one on the side handle. Handle wrappers come in many colors and prints and will change the look of your luggage completely by changing the color of the handle. When you put one on each handle, it really makes the luggage distinctly yours.

TSA locks are also available in bright colors. You can choose the combination lock or the key lock. These are the only locks permitted at airports, because TSA security personnel have a key that bypasses the lock and allows them to open the case when necessary. You can place one of these locks on the main zipper, and on any outside zipper pockets if you wish. Try to keep to the same color scheme, or combination, so you know what you're looking for at busy airport carousels.

One of the best ideas for identifying your luggage is having your monogram imprinted or burned on to the case. This is permanent and cannot be easily removed. No one can claim they thought it was "theirs" when it obviously does not have their initials or name on it. Paste on lettering can be removed, while monogramming cannot. Many travelers also have their luggage tags monogrammed with their initials. It's another way of identifying your luggage as strictly "yours." Remember that ribbons and bows are only temporary as identification. They unfortunately can be removed easily, and also get caught in the airport conveyer belts and ripped off, sometimes damaging the luggage. With the vast amount of luggage in black, or other dark colors, it's important to have your luggage stand out from the rest.

Travel belts that go around the suitcase are another way of identifying your bag. They are available in bright solid colors and prints. These travel belts circle the bag going through the handle so they won't slip off. Some models have a combination lock, but these must be TSA locks to be permitted at airports. The TSA security personnel can also open these with their master key if the need arises. There are also cute tags that say "STOP I'm not yours" and "Just Retired" which are eye-catching and distinctive. Some luggage includes "tracer programs" and these can also be purchased separately. These programs offer a reward and an 800 number for finders to call to reunite you with your lost luggage. Hopefully, by following these tips you and your luggage will arrive at your destination at the same time!

Carry On Luggage Restrictions - Your Must Know Guide

!: Carry On Luggage Restrictions - Your Must Know Guide

Every time I go to the airport ready for a new adventure, I hold my breath once I get to the front of the check in line. I actually start praying that my bags may have lost some weight during the drive to the airport. This is a problem that we all face, but airlines can be very lenient with these restrictions on luggage that goes on the hold. But the bigger problem now and where they are more strict than ever is on the carry on luggage restrictions.

So the purpose of this article is to try and give you a quick rundown of how to breath easy approaching an airport with carry on luggage. This cannot be an all-inclusive document as many airlines make up their own rules on the fly, so I will do my best to cover of as many rules as possible. The last thing we want is for you to lose a 0 bottle of aftershave/perfume because of the carry on luggage restrictions, or even worse still, have to put your valuables in the hold because your bag is too big to fit in the cabin.

So lets talk SIZE, because we all know that size does matter in such situations. The carry on luggage restrictions allow your carry on luggage to be between 105 cm (41 inches) with a hard case, and 185 cm (73 inches) with no hard case. The way they calculate this number is the add the Length + Height + Depth as shown in the image on the left.

Most airlines only allow one item per person, but depending on the class you travel, First, Business or Economy, it can change.

Now onto the Weight problem. With all the traveling that I have done recently, I think I have only been asked once to weigh my carry on luggage, but that was when I was acting smart with the customs guy (note to self, airports are really not the place to start being smart, I would advise waiting till you get to your destination.) The limits are for most airlines around 7 KG or 15 pounds, its really not that much, so please pack carefully, and leave the kitchen sink to go into the hold.

Now the newest member of the carry on luggage restrictions is the new Liquid and Aerosol restrictions. These are the restrictions that the airlines and customs are very strict about. The rules say, that each item of carry on luggage is allowed on one resealable clear bag no greater than 80cm in diameter. In this bag you are allowed to put all your required liquids and aerosols, but they are not allowed to be in containers larger than 100 ml or 3.4 ounces.

Now I hope this is helpful, I am sick of losing really expensive nice aftershaves, so if you, and even I follow these rules we should be able to keep smelling good our whole trip. As a side note, be careful when buying liquids on long flights where you have to change planes, as the rules apply to every airline, so if you change airplanes and you have a big bottle of very expensive alcohol, you won't be able to take it on board.

Safe travels, and I wish I was coming with you :)

Carry on Luggage Restrictions and Rules - Time Saving Tips!

!: Carry on Luggage Restrictions and Rules - Time Saving Tips!

It's sad but true that in today's modern world, one of the most looked at targets for terrorism would be travel or the travel industry in general. So to lower the chances of this kind of untoward event happening during traveling, travel authorities by land or air has made more and more carry on luggage restrictions. Though it can sometimes be a bit overwhelming and too constricted, we must understand, that the authorities are doing this to guarantee the safety of the travelers as much as they could.

If you are traveling by air, it's a must that you check the carry on luggage restriction of the airline you will be taking to prevent any inconveniences. Particularly for international flights, airlines have different carry on luggage restrictions. Keeping track of these rules are also important especially for frequent flyers. News sources, whether online, television or radio can be an important source of information. Travelers are also encouraged to check on the TSA website (Transportation Security Administration) for the latest carry on luggage restrictions especially those who are checking in for flights at US airports.

With more and more terrorism threats, airports are strictly enforcing their own carry on luggage restrictions. Most airlines use bag sizers at check in gates to immediately check the bags and to make sure that luggage do not exceed the weight limit they have set. For carry on bags that exceeds the weight limit, the passenger will need to check them in and will be fined extra charges.

Nowadays, airline carry on luggage restrictions have caused many passengers to change their ability to carry stuff like they do in the past. More and more, passengers need to pack things and have it as checked luggage which for them adds more concerns especially if expensive items such as digital cameras, laptop computers, digital media and the likes end up in checked luggage. They worry about these fragile items being damaged while in transit.

Airlines now permit the inclusion of small items in an individual's luggage such as nail clippers, non metallic nail files, disposable razors, razor blade cartridges as well as syringes and needles for personal uses. However, carrying of knives, corkscrews, firecrackers, golf clubs, hockey sticks or any other form of sharp object are included on the carry on luggage restrictions.

Apart from, these, any airline reserves the right to restrict item they deem as a security threat. A major tip for passengers, given the rules and restrictions, its best to comply to it rather than complain and argue with airport personnel. Not only will it save you time and effort, it is also to save everybody else from any inconvenience, afterall, these rules are for everyone's security and well being while traveling.

Carry on Luggage - Packing it Right Tips

!: Carry on Luggage - Packing it Right Tips

Have you ever imagined going on a long flight without anything with you? What's worse is that you made sure you would not get bored so you brought things to make you busy, packed them in what you supposed to be your carry on luggage but the airline would not allow you to carry it inside the plane because it is too big. Or what you brought your valuables, located them in many small bags mental you could bring them all in with you but it turns out you are allowed to bring in just one bag, regardless of the size. And you will spend your trip worrying if your valuables are all safe. So it's important that you know about the rules and regulations of the airline you are flying with about your carry on luggage, especially if you're not a regular flyer. It sure is a big deal.

Usually, passengers are allowed to have just one bag as your carry on luggage, and the rest goes with other passengers' luggage. So if you do not know this and brought many bags in relatively small sizes like shoulder bags, you might need to select just one of these bags as your carry on luggage. They also just allow a determined size of carry on bag to let in with you to fit in the bag cabin in the passengers' area.

What you put in you bag depends on the time of flight. If you're going on a rather short flight, you'd just probably bring with you important stuff to avoid them from getting broken or lost with other luggage. But if you're going on a long trip, you might also need to bring more onboard like toothbrush, Games, pocketbooks, enterprise papers, extra shirts, etc.

So before the flight, make time to check on the rules about your carry on luggage. You may either touch man at the airport or check the airline on the web. You'll have to know this before purchasing the carry on bag you'll use for the trip. Also, be wise on what to bring. Some population tend to bring more than what they need and just add up to the size of the carry on bag. This may be easy but in a way should also be one of the things to be planned.
